A Peek At A Homemade Birthday Gift Basket

Easter is not the only holiday that is celebrated in either March or April. Maybe that fact explains the demand for online purchase of a birthday gift basket. Maybe other birthday celebrants became jealous of the Easter basket given to a Christian friend with a birthday. At the present time, someone with a birthday during the Passover, during No Rooz, or during Ridzan can anticipate the possible receipt of a birthday gift basket. Even a child in a Sikh family who has a birthday in April might be surprised on his or her “special day” with some sort of gift basket.

Well before the proliferation of online stores that can sell the online shopper a birthday gift basket, a lucky few enjoyed one or more homemade birthday gift baskets. Individuals who had been born into a Christian household, and who had a birthday in late March or in early to mid April would, on occasion get a birthday gift basket. That birthday gift basket was a lovely Easter basket.

The need for creation of a birthday gift basket was once determined solely by the phase of the moon. That is because the phase of the moon plays a large part in the selection of the calendar date for Easter. According to tradition, Easter falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon, after the first day of spring.

For some children with an Easter birthday, the anticipation of a Happy Birthday gift basket grows each day during Easter week. Such a child might start the week by accepting the gift of a small palm, a reminder of events on the first Palm Sunday. Such a child might later participate in an Easter egg hunt, or visit a store where small shoppers are invited to visit with an “Easter bunny.”

Finally, on Sunday morning, the child awakes with an excitement reminiscent of Christmas morning. The child looks gleefully for the hidden Happy Birthday gift basket. The child expects that basket to contain colorful eggs and delicious chocolate bunnies. It might also have an extra something, something intended as a birthday treat.

The present-day birthday gift basket might seem to make a more appealing gift than a homemade gift basket, but it would lack one important extra. Such a gift basket would not display the concern and love that helps to fashion a homemade birthday gift basket.
In such a basket a caring adult can add an item that truly delights the young recipient of that gift basket.

A parent might, for instance, decide to hide a cell phone in the grass of that combination Easter and birthday basket. For a younger child, the parent might add to the basket a packet of flower seeds or a small box of crayons. Almost anything that one could put in a Christmas stocking, one could also put in a combination Easter and birthday basket.

Innovative adults can tuck in a child’s gift basket items that one would not expect to find in a gift basket from an online store. A young boy might find a small car in his basket. A young girl with long hair might find various berets in her basket. A young, male teen or pre-teen might find in the basket tickets to a baseball game. A young female of the same age might enjoy the discovery of a small charm in her gift basket.

All might wish that the date for Easter would never change.
